Caged - Complacent - Committed

In working life you will find three types of persons:

1) Those who live in a CAGE and are fearful,

2) those who are COMPLACENT and feel entitled,

3) those who take CHARGE and leverage their circumstances in a positive spirit of learning.


Those who live in a cage - they simply have a JOB. They are often bored, joyless and miserable. They watch the clock and will do the minimum they can get away with. The least lousy solution is good enough in terms of performance.

They will not try to improve their situation or their performance. They will blame others for their circumstances. When things go wrong, they see themselves as victims of "Bad Luck!"

Their mind-set is closed for whatever "legitimate reason" and deep down they are desperate  and paralyzed by their own fear. I have seen people in Golden Cages, but cages never the less.


Then there are those who are quite comfortable in their positions. There is a reasonable degree of financial abundance, stability and security to be comfortable. They are content to live as they do until they retire. Yet there is a degree of entitlement to their position and status, their perks, their salaries and their opinions.

They keep themselves very busy but they add little value in terms of innovation or initiative. There is no passion, no drive and no ambition to change anything. They are most resistant to change should the topic ever come up. "Hey, only another 'n' years until I retire - don't rock my boat."

But then there are the persons who are committed to action. They perceive opportunities, are engaged and generate the energy to make a difference.

These people are charged up to contribute, research, investigate  and will assist even outside their designated responsibilities. They are positive and prepared to learn. They build value from opportunities they perceive and act upon them. 

Their enthusiasm is infectious and they soon align others who can see the trends, the opportunities and the end result, They are the visionaries and become the leaders.

They often become  in-house intrapreneurs if allowed by the company culture, or they might leave as entrepreneurs with their own start-ups.

Which one are YOU? Creating value or burning value?
Caged?
Complacent?
Charged up?
